New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson made a remarkable start to his Test career, scalping four wickets in his debut match against India in Wellington. His ability to move the ball derailed the India top-order, which included the prized wicket of Virat Kohli.
Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari and Ishant Sharma were the other wickets Jamieson bagged on his Test debut.
However, he feels there is still scope of improvement and he is focused to make massive strides next year.
“I’m still a long way off (from) where I want to be as a bowler and as a cricketer. The stuff that I started to work on with Auckland, with Heinrich (Malan), I think in the next year or so, I’m going to make massive strides.”
Kyle Jamieson started as a batsman:
Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne started as leg-spinners but later went on to become the finest Test batsmen of the current generation.
On the contrary, Jamieson started as a batsman, and eventually played in the role for New Zealand U-19s.
Jamieson said, he loved batting and never thought of bowling as his career option, in the earlier days.
“I always liked batting, it was probably what I grew up admiring the most – whilst I did bowl, I did not think of that as my career option growing up. Now I’m a bowler who can bat, trying to get to the all-rounder stage, that’s where I ideally want to be.”
Kyle Jamieson looking fire up his pace:
Jamieson, 25, clocked around the 130-135 kmph mark on his debut but his bounce and movement did the trick for his side. He, however, is now focused to add steam to his pace, which can prove to be a lethal combination for him.
“Yeah, for sure (looking to add pace),” he said.
Jamieson holds a decent economy of 2.40 in the longest format of the game. He has a bowling average of 44.00 and could prove to be a key for New Zealand in future.
