Surprisingly, Steve Smith has always been the common name whenever we come across brain-fade moments in the game of cricket. However, this time, he ended up on the right side of things, as Lakshan Sandakan of Sri Lanka was the one, who became the meme material during the second T20I game at The Gabba on Wednesday.

David Warner, Steve Smith hit fifties:

In the 13th over bowled by Lakshan Sandakan, Warner hit one of his deliveries straight back at the non-striker’s end, crashing onto the stumps. Only 6 runs away from clinching the series, Smith took off for a run only to be sent back by Warner. Lakshan, quick on his feet, grabbed the ball in his right hand and uprooted the stumps from the ground with his left.

During the course, Steve Smith was not even in the frame to escape from the danger. However, then came the brain-fade moment from Lakshan Sandakan, who gave a lifeline by uprooting the stump without putting the ball to it. Certainly, it left all the cricket fanatics in splits.

Coming to the match report, initially, Lasith Malinga won the toss and elected to bat first at the Gabba, Brisbane but it did not work in the visitors’ favour. Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Perera got starts but failed to convert them into big scores.

Billy Stanlake, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar picked two wickets each. Poor running between the wickets cost them too as there were two run-outs in the innings. They could manage 117 runs in the second T20I, getting all out in the 19th over.

In reply, David Warner and Steve Smith hit fifties as Australia went 2-0 up in the T20I series. The Kangaroos hammered the Islanders by nine wickets to secure the second Twenty20 in Brisbane on Wednesday and wrap up the series.
