Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah has portrayed another scintillating bowling display against New Zealand in the fifth T20I of the five-match series. His performance helped India clinch a 5-0 clean sweep against New Zealand at their home. India became the first team to achieve this feat.
The Kiwis had the match in their clutches at one point but they faltered once again against disciplined Indian bowling attack.
Bumrah clinched three wickets in his four overs. He dismissed opener Martin Guptill to give the Kiwis an early shock. In the death overs, Bumrah got the crucial wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Tim Southee. Bumrah kept his line very tight and gave away just 12 runs in his quota of four overs with an economy three runs per over.
Jasprit Bumrah Opens Up On His Experience of Bowling in New Zealand:
Bumrah has been the most deadly bowler across all formats in world cricket in recent times. He has scared batsmen all across the world and this time it was New Zealand that he wanted to leave a mark on.
“Feeling very good. The match got close at one point but we had belief that if we can squeeze in one or two good overs, the match can get close. It was windy, I was trying to use the wind and the longer side of the boundary. Very happy with the learnings, different ground dimensions, first time in New Zealand, great result,” said an ecstatic Bumrah.
India became the first team ever to clean sweep a five-match T20I series. They beat New Zealand in the final ODI by seven runs to win the series 5-0. Having won the toss, India decided to bat first.
Virat Kohli was dropped from the team and Rohit Sharma replaced him as the captain.
Sanju Samson disappointed everyone with the bat again as he could score only a couple of runs. After his dismissal, KL Rahul and Rohit stitched a rock-solid partnership for India.
Rohit scored 60 runs off 41 balls but had to be taken out of the ground due to injury. India eventually finished with 163-3 in their 20 overs.
The Indian bowling attack was right on the money and the pace trio of Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, and Navdeep Saini rattled the Kiwi batting lineup.
India clinched three wickets early on in the innings and put instant pressure on New Zealand. Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor stitched a wonderful partnership but eventually perished against the Indian bowling attack.
Eventually, New Zealand could only manage 156-9 in their 20 overs and this helped India became the first team to clean sweep a 5-0 bilateral T20I series victory.
