Though there are many departments in the game of cricket, batting as a finisher has always been a special one mainly in the white-ball cricket. However, only a few players in the world cricket got the privilege to bat at the said position. The Indian stalwart Mahendra Singh Dhoni and South African promising gun Faarhan Behardien are few of them.

It is the dangerous position to bat on as there is a good chance for the batsmen to end up receiving all the criticism. However, if they finish it for the team, they would be in the headlines for quite a period of the time.

People criticise Mahendra Singh Dhoni as well – Faarhan Behardien

Speaking of batting at number seven, Faarhan maintained that it is always a tough job to handle. He feels that there is a ‘love-hate relationship’ with the fans owing to the discussed position. Playing as a finisher is always a tough job one would ever ask for in the top-flight cricket.

Behadien set an example of MS Dhoni for his explanation. He added even the great of the game; Dhoni ended up receiving flak from the fans when he failed to finish the game. But, he is the same player who eventually earns a lot of accolades when he finishes well for the team.

“They criticise Dhoni as well. He is one of the best in the world. As soon as he doesn’t perform, everybody is like ‘why is he in the team?’. As soon as he wins a game, he is the best in the world; it’s the same position. That’s where the game gets won and lost, all the time,” Behardien told Cricbuzz.

“The same people criticise you, the same people praise you. That’s why there is a love-hate relationship. You can be the match-winner and you can potentially not do well and lose the game. From overs 40 to 50, when you are chasing or setting up a score. One day you hit it, get an edge and get caught at the boundary. On another day, it’s in the stands,” he added.

Currently, Behardien is eyeing to make a comeback in the side by performing in the domestic cricket.

With a considerable time left for the ICC World Cup 2019, Farhaan Behardien is hopeful for a place in the squad. Coming to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he is named in the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 for India.

With Virat Kohli being out of the Asia Cup 2018 squad, Dhoni has a more significant amount of responsibility on his shoulders in helping Rohit Sharma leading the team.
