The Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL) is all gearing up gradually to begin on the 21st of November. All five franchises namely, Jaffna Stallions, Dambulla Hawks, Kandy Tuskers, Colombo Kings and Galle Gladiators, built their squads on Monday through an online draft. Some of the marquee players, who are seasoned T20 cricketers, have received bids from all the franchises for the LPL.

The likes of Chris Gayle, Faf Du Plessis, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Manvinder Bisla, Manpreet Gony, and Dawid Malan have earned bids from the franchises. Each LPL side has a choice to recruit two foreign players and one local marquee cricketer. The rest of the players will receive payments as per the price determined by the category they were in going into the draft.
Nevertheless, the entire LPL draft was revealed to have carried out haphazardly. There existed zero co-ordination between the organisers and stakeholders. At the same time, there were also instances of selectors going off the video call with seeking continuous clarifications between the owners and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Meanwhile, all five franchises have opted for 16 to 20 players. Some slots remain vacant for the time being as the franchise owners hope to persuade other overseas players later to play for their teams. The tournament will begin on the 21st of November and conclude on the 13th of December. The Sooriyawewa Stadium will host the initial matches of the competition before shifting to Pallekele for the remaining league games and knockout games.
