Lungi Ngidi Eager to Have a Prolonged Career With South Africa

Young South African seamer, Lungi Ngidi is eyeing for a lengthy career in the South African team, who made his Test debut during the recently concluded three-match Test series against India in the Rainbow Nation.

Since then, he has been on a rollercoaster ride as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) roped him for the Indian Premier League (IPL). He had an impressive debut returning with one for 26 in his quota of four overs.

Ngidi replaced Dale Steyn in the South Africa squad during the Test series against India and made an immediate mark.

In the three Tests, he has played so far, Ngidi has claimed 14 wickets including a match-winning effort.

Ngidi eyes long career with Proteas”

Ngidi wants to keep the ball rolling and keen to have a very long, prosperous international career with the country.

Moreover, the paceman has already impressed one and all and looks to continue the momentum.

I’ve still got years ahead of me. The first thing that I’d like to do is make sure my career’s very long. At the moment, I just want to keep the ball rolling. I’ve got some good momentum behind me,” Ngidi said to ICC’s digital platform.

Talking about his superlative debut, Ngidi said that everybody doesn’t expect a day like that. He also revealed that it gave him confidence and realise his potential.

Having made his international debut only in April last year (2017), Ngidi admitted that he is quite energetic at the moment and is looking forward to every opportunity he gets.

The 22-year-old seamer also admitted that he is happy with how things are shaping up now.

Just having come on to the international scene as well, I’m still very energetic, very excited about everything that happens. I’m just looking to utilise that as best as I can. I’m very excited about what’s happening and, as a cricketer, that’s all I can really do, look forward to every opportunity I get and perform as best as I can,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi will have his task cut out when he takes the field for CSK against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 3 at iconic Eden Gardens.
