Former India swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag feels that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should continue at least till the World Cup 2019. He is the opinion that Rishabh Pant hasn’t played enough matches in the One-day International format to be included in the coveted squad.

Several pundits have questioned MS Dhoni’s tactics in the 50-overs format.

His innings of 38 off 57 deliveries against England in the second ODI drew widespread criticism. Former legend Sunil Gavaskar had compared the innings with his immortal knock of 36 not out in a 60 overs ODI game.

Virender Sehwag feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni should play till World Cup 2019:

“In my personal opinion, MS Dhoni should continue till the 2019 World Cup. Even if you play Pant in ODIs from now, he won’t be able to play more than 15-16 ODIs till the World Cup which is far less compared to Dhoni, who has played over 300 ODIs. I would want Dhoni to continue till the World Cup,” India Today Sehwag as saying.

There is no doubt about the fact that Dhoni is a champion limited-overs batsman and a class wicket-keeper. Though, he is not a technically sound batsman. It has been his street-smart instincts which have helped him become one of the finest batsmen in the 50-over format.

Statistics don’t lie for a long period of time. And there is no doubt about the fact there has hardly been a better finisher than Dhoni.

However, the former Indian skipper Dhoni is nowhere close to where he was around four years ago. His batting form has gone down quite a bit and the big scores haven’t been coming on a consistent basis.

But, he is a world-class player and we cannot rule out a final burst in his career. He will definitely look to lift another World Cup 2019 albeit as a player in the team.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Virat Kohli has been largely benefited from the presence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the limited-overs dressing room with eyes being set on the World Cup 2019.
