The way Mali’s women team performed against Rwanda in the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament in the Rwandan capital of Kigali City, it became crystal clear that they need to play out of their skins even to get some recognition let alone becoming an elite in the game. Mali’s women were all out for just 6.
Surprisingly, it took Rwanda nine overs to bowl out their opponents. What is even more embarrassing for Mali is that 5 of those six runs were extras. Opening batter Mariam Samake was the only Mali player who managed to register a score on the scoreboard.

For Rwanda, 19-year-old medium-pacer Josiane Nyirankundineza starred with the ball, picking up three wickets without conceding any run. Medium-pacer Marie Diane Bimenyimana and leg-spinner Margueritte Vumiliya picked up two wickets apiece.

Chasing six, Rwanda crossed the line in just four balls, with Nyirankundineza notching five runs and Antoinette Uwimbabazi adding two. Mali’s measly total represented a tournament record, surpassing China’s previous low score of 14 made against UAE in January during the Women’s T20 Smash in Bangkok.

While Mizoram batted for 13.5 overs, they managed to score just 9 runs. In reply, Madhya Pradesh took just six balls to cross the target and register a thumping 10-wicket win.
