Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has opened up on his axing from the national team under the leadership of MS Dhoni despite scoring a century. And even as his exclusion from the side remains unexplained, Manoj revealed that he hasn’t interrogated the then captain, MS Dhoni, on the same. The 34-year old remains a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket with nearly 9000 first-class runs and over 5000 List A runs.

Manoj Tiwary last played for India in 2015 against Zimbabwe. While, he didn’t fare as much as he would’ve liked in that game and the last few, the Bengal batsman was dropped after scoring a hundred in 2011. He scored his maiden and only ODI hundred against the West Indies in December 2011 for which he also received the man of the match.

But the right-handed batsman never got the opportunity or had the bravado to question the leader of the side. He claimed that since they respect their senior cricketers so much, they didn’t have the steal in them to ask such things.

I never got the opportunity, or you say courage, at that point of time to go and ask Mahi, our captain during that time, because we respect our seniors so much that we tend to hold ourselves back on questioning a few things. So, I haven’t questioned him yet.” Tiwary said as quoted by News Indian Express.

The 34-year old was startled by his omission, given he scored a match-winning hundred, and yet had to face an axe for the next 14 games. At the same time, he understands the ideas and the convictions of the coach and management and that they have to respect their decisions.

“I never thought that after scoring a 100 for my country, getting a Man of the Match Award, I will not find a place in the playing XI for the next 14 games. But I also do respect the fact that the captain and the coach or the management had some other ideas as well because we as players have to respect whatever they were thinking at that point of time, maybe they thought otherwise.” he added.
