The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced all the three squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy which starts from August 17. The selectors once again found themselves in deep water as Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary slammed them after being ignored for the Duleep Trophy. The veteran batsman didn’t find a place among the 44 cricketers picked.

Duleep Trophy will mark the start of 2019-20 domestic season which will culminate with the Irani Trophy in 2020. Bengaluru will host the series starting from August 17 with the final to be played on September 8. Priyank Panchal, Faiz Fazal, and young Shubman Gill will lead the three squads – India Red, India Green, and India Blue. However, Manoj Tiwary, who has been a consistent scorer in the domestic circuit, slammed the selectors for keeping him guessing.

The 33-year-old took a dig at East Zone selectors Devang Gandhi stating that he wanted clarity about his non-selection last time, but the former cricketer-turned selector has kept mum. Manoj Tiwary also slammed him for not presenting the case of Bengal cricketers at the national selection meetings.
“Last year, when I wasn’t picked for the Duleep Trophy, I tried to reach out to him (Gandhi). But there was no response from his end. I wanted clarity. I texted him my stats, but despite that, he kept ignoring me. I also messaged other members of the selection committee. But I didn’t get any kind of response. It’s very disappointing that the selector from our Zone doesn’t present our case (during selection meetings),” Tiwary told The Indian Express. “He has let us down. He has failed as a selector. He hardly turns up for Bengal matches,” he added.

Furthermore, Manoj Tiwary lamented that the selectors preferred quantity over quality. Tiwary hinted at players like Milind Kumar, who played for Sikkim as an outstation professional in the Ranji Trophy last season and scored 1,331 runs in the Plate Group. Tiwary, on the other hand, amassed 616 runs, including a double century and a century, playing in the Elite Group A.
“It’s easy to score tons of runs in the Plate Group. Bengal feature in the Elite Group A in the Ranji Trophy and we play our home matches on Eden Gardens green-tops in the winter. If you don’t come and see, how will you pick a player?” Tiwary added.
