The South Africa National Cricket Team coach Mark Boucher is satisfied with the way Quinton de Kock is leading the team. He lavished praises on the wicketkeeper-batsman for his incredible thinking during the game and also expressed de Kock will emulate MS Dhoni as a leader when it comes to the limited-overs format.

Boucher reckons that South Africa’s ODI and T20I skipper Quinton de Kock has the potential to replicate Dhoni’s role in the national team. Recently, in the ODI series against England, he was given the leadership mantle in place of Faf du Plessis.

After eking out a 1-1 series in the 50-over format, de Kock led the team to victory in the first T20I game on Wednesday.

A lot of people questioned MS Dhoni – Mark Boucher

Speaking of de Kock, Boucher stated that the youngster will achieve the dreams of South Africa with his captaincy skills in limited-overs formats. He took Dhoni as an example, who was given the charge ahead of inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and later, had success in 2011 World Cup.

“A lot of people questioned MS Dhoni when he was the captain of India but I think he has a great captaincy record. Quinny (De Kock) enjoys being in the game. On the field he leads well‚ he makes good captaining decisions and off the field, he is pretty chilled and that can be good for the youngsters,” Boucher told the media.

“Him opening the batting‚ keeping wicket and captaining can be sustainable in the lead up to the World Cup in 2023. On the field, we always knew that he has a very smart cricketing brain‚ he showed that with different field placings which I thought were very good. He thinks outside the box,” concluded Boucher.

Despite leading the team, de Kock fared pretty well with the bat for South Africa in ODI series. He scored a century in Cape Town and followed it up with a half-century in 2nd ODI to receive ‘Man of the Series’ honour.

So far, he had a good run and hopes to make things fall in place in future as well.
