Head coach of the South African cricket team, Mark Boucher believes that the team is starting fresh and with different approaches in the home series against England.
England will tour South Africa for three T20Is and as many ODIs which will be played in Cape Town and Paarl. The T20I series begins on 27th November followed by the ODI series from 4th December. Later, South Africa will host Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series starting in the last week of December.
We want to be nice and aggressive: Mark Boucher
Mark Boucher, in a recent interview, said that the team will start afresh and with modified values that are based on a certain performance model. Boucher knows that England, the 2019 World Cup winners will give his side a tough challenge.
Furthermore, the 43-year-old said that he and the players are excited and nervous at the same time, as they will play their first international game in eight months. England defeated South Africa in the T20I series earlier in the year by a 2-1 scoreline.
As quoted by India Today, Mark Boucher said, “We have started afresh and restructured our values. It is all based on a performance model. Now is the time we can put it to the test, and who better to test us than the (50-over) world champions England. I am excited and nervous, but I think that is a good thing. A lot of the players are nervous, too.”
The head coach feels that the Quinton de Kock led team will be extra aggressive as that the vogue in T20 cricket. The former Protea wicket-keeper opined that along with power, players need to smart and use their skills shrewdly. He said that the batters and bowlers are trying a variety of balls and shots to develop their game.
“We want to be nice and aggressive, that is the way the game is going. You can’t be mavericks either, you need to be smart. We are trying to help the batters and bowlers add shots or varieties of balls to their game to help them develop,” Mark Boucher added.
Meanwhile, one South African player has been tested positive for coronavirus. Along with the unnamed player, two close contacts were put into quarantine in Cape Town.
