Bangladesh One-Day Internationals captain Mashrafe Mortaza is likely to miss out the ODI series against West Indies. Mortaza is unlikely to travel with the team as his wife is not doing well.
Thus, the veteran medium pacer is likely to stay back at home. The three-match ODI series will begin from 22 July with the first One-Dayer scheduled to be held at Providence Stadium, Guyana. If Mortaza fails to join the team for the ODI series, then Shakib Al Hasan will take over the reins of captaincy.
“Mashrafe’s involvement in the ODI series is in doubt,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin told ESPNcricinfo. “I spoke to him last night. His wife is really sick. I don’t think he will be able to go to the West Indies.”
It could be a further blow to the tourists as they have already lost the first Test match by a huge margin of an innings and 219 runs.
Furthermore, Shafiul Islam twisted his ankle during the training session on Tuesday. Thus, the ankle injury will keep Islam on the sidelines for the second Test match. The second game is going to be played at Jamaica from Thursday.

Therefore, Bangladesh who is trailing 1-0 in the two-Test match series will like to bounce back to draw level. In fact, Bangladesh’s Test squad has four fast bowlers, which means they would not be able to make any changes to their pace bowling battery.
The One-Day series will be followed by the three-match T20I series. The first T20I will be played on 31 July.
