Bangladesh’s former ODI skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza has made a bold claim stating that his teammate, Mahmudullah is a lot like legendary Indian batsman, VVS Laxman. Laxman was a consistent run-getter in Test cricket while a more than capable white-ball batsman.

Laxman also had the respect of all the team members in the dressing room. He always had the backing of former captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble. After bringing down the curtains on his career, Laxman is now a widely respected cricket pundit and commentator.

Now, Mashrafe Mortaza has gone on to say that Mahmudullah bears a lot of similarities with the Indian legend and his stats don’t reflect the same.

Mashrafe Mortaza Heaps Praise On Mahmudullah

“Mahmudullah is a lot like Laxman. Whenever the team need runs, he always comes forward,” Mashrafe Mortaza said during a Facebook live session with Tamim Iqbal as per bdcrictime.com. “If he could have batted at number four or five, his statistics would have been better. But in the interest of the team, we asked him to bat at No.6,” he added.

“We didn’t have a batsman down the order who could play devastating innings at the end. He has lost many runs in his career while playing for the team. Riyad must have been upset a lot of times but I always felt that he accepted his role with a smile,” Mashrafe Mortaza further said.

Mahmudullah Has Been An All-Round Find For Bangladesh

Ever since making his debut for Bangladesh in 2007, Mahmudullah has been a key player for the Bangla Tigers. Mahmudullah has played a total of 49 Test matches so far wherein he has scored 2764 runs at an average of 31.41. The right-hander has also scalped 43 wickets in his Test career with a five-wicket haul.
