Mayank Agarwal, Indian Test opener and the current member of the Kings XI Punjab franchise, is hoping to iron out his inconsistencies that has plagued his Indian Premier League thus far.

Agarwal, who has been a consistent performer for his state Karnataka over the years, has never been able to replicate his talent into performances in the cash-rich league, something he is looking forward to overcome in the upcoming season.

Agarwal, in a recent conversation with ESPNCricinfo, also mentioned that he is hoping to be a part of an IPL-winning side this time around after having narrowly missed out on the opportunity during his stint with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.

I’ve been scoring runs at different levels, but the fact remains I haven’t had a breakthrough IPL season yet [in ten years now], so I’m looking forward to correcting that. Also, I’m looking forward to being part of a winning IPL team. I came close in 2017 [with Rising Pune Supergiant],” Mayank Agarwal was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

KL Rahul, Aggarwal’s teammate will be leading the Kings XI Punjab outfit for the first time this season. Agarwal recalled his journey with KL Rahul while playing for various teams over the years, adding that he is excited for his fellow opener as he embarks on a new journey.

Mayank Agarwal also recalled his experience of playing under Anil Kumble for RCB, adding that the former leg-spinner gives you a clarity where one stands as a cricketer and how he can elevate his game to the next level.

KL [Rahul] and I started together, played India Under-19 together, we’ve opened in Tests. We’ve been part of a World Cup team. This is his first time as captain, and I’m excited for him. We’ve both played under Anil [Kumble] Bhai at RCB. As a coach, Anil bhai has been meticulous in his planning and has given us specific roles. When someone gives you clarity to the extent he has, it gives you a clear picture of where you stand and what you should do to get to the next level,” Agarwal added.

The Indian opener also added that the presence of guys like Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell, KL Rahul, and Nicholas Pooran helps keep a jovial atmosphere in the set-up.

We’re a fun group of players at Kings XI. [Chris] Gayle, KL, [Nicholas] Pooran, [Glenn] Maxwell – all of them love to express themselves on the field,” Agarwal further said.
