A young team under the newly-appointed skipper MS Dhoni created history when they won the maiden edition of the ICC World T20 in 2007. India were back from the group stages of the 50-overs World Cup and the stakes were down. This is when Dhoni inspired some young talents to take the team to the title which also marks his long legacy in the Indian cricket.

It was a perfect finale to the perfect competition. With up to three matches a day and no pausing for breath, the inaugural World T20 in South Africa was done and dusted inside a fortnight. Though the action was exhausting, it was also exhilarating, not least the final, between India and Pakistan.

Set 158 to win after Gautam Gambhir‘s 75, Pakistan were out of contention at 77 for six. But Misbah-ul-Haq hoisted them right back into the match with three sixes in an over off Harbhajan Singh. But then, with the game at his mercy, Misbah chose the wrong shot giving Sreesanth an easy catch, and India had their first global title since 1983.

12 years have passed since that evening of September 24, 2007, but still, that moment of MS Dhoni lifting the World T20 trophy is as fresh as it can get in the memories of cricket fans across India. This also marked a new beginning in Indian cricketer as it only got better from there and in the next four years, the Men in Blues lifted the 50-overs title.

The cricketers who were a part of that historic side took to social media sites to relives the memories close to their heart. From Yuvraj Singh to Yusuf Pathan to Gautam Gambhir, many took to their official social media platforms to recall the past.
