Former Australian batsman Michael Hussey has revealed his take on contesting the T20 World Cup later in Australia. The sixth edition of the mega tournament has been hovering with uncertainties ever since the COVID-19 pandemic exploded thoroughly. While international cricket will return to the fore next week, Michael Hussey believes that staging the T20 World Cup could prove as a logistical nightmare.

While Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that crowds could be let into the stadiums, Cricket Australia opposed the move. The Board defied staging the tournament down under with the former chief Kevin Roberts warning of “high risk” factor if it goes ahead. Under the current circumstances, the ICC is yet to take a call on the T20 World Cup edition’s fate.

Michael Hussey feels that instead of bringing out several teams, it is better to start with one side and getting them to quarantine, stay safe, and prepare well for the rubber.

I am really fearful about the T20 World Cup to be honest and the reason for that is I think it is okay to bring out one team to play international cricket and get them to isolate and stay safe and prepare well for a series,” the 45-year-old said as quoted by Times of India.

The Western Australian added by saying that inviting 16 teams, getting them to isolate, and moving around the country would prove precarious. Hussey believes that the tournament would have to be postponed to 2021 or 2022.

But having to bring a number of teams and getting them to isolate to prepare and then move around the country to different venues I think that will be a logistical nightmare. From what we are hearing perhaps the T20 World Cup will have to be postponed for 2021 or even 2022,” Michael Hussey said.

The former left-handed batsman underlined that there are more chances of the India-Australia rubber going well and ahead of the upcoming summer. Hussey underlined a hotel built connected to the Adelaide Oval hence the tourists could ensconce themselves there, train, prepare and play against Australia.

I am a lot more positive about the Indian tour of Australia going ahead and the reason is bringing one team to tour here and getting them to a hub is easier. For example Adelaide Oval has just built a hotel connected to the stadium, so the Indian team could base themselves there, train and prepare for a series, and play against Australia,” he added.
