Mickey Arthur Assures Sri Lanka Are Almost Ready For International Cricket

The Sri Lankan team resumed their training earlier this month as already announced by their coach Mickey Arthur. Even though the visit from the Indian squad stands cancelled as confirmed by the BCCI, the Sri Lankan national side completed their first training session or drills post lockdown. And with that, Mickey Arthur has made a bold statement.

Cricket in Sri Lanka stood suspended starting from the two-match Test series against England at home in March. The English team departed back midway from their warm-up games in response to the growing fears about the COVID-19 pandemic. The series against South Africa was also suspended for the same reason.

Mickey Arthur said that they have performed plenty of conditioning and have raised the workload of the Sri Lanka bowlers. Hence, he is positive that the players will be ready for international cricket the next month. The next training session will take place the forthcoming week even as it remains unclear when the players would take the field.

“We have done a lot of conditioning and every day we have upped their bowling. So they are almost ready in the next month, they will be ready to play cricket.” the South African said as quoted by News18.

Sri Lanka’s ODI and Test skipper Dimuth Karunaratne admitted that the first day of training after too many idle days was challenging. At the same, the left-handed batsman was confident of retaining his fitness back and his side bouncing back to play good cricket moving forward.

“Even when we are training in the first day it was really hard, but now I am shaping and I am getting my fitness back. We are trying to bounce back and play good international cricket” Karunaratne said.
