Mike Hesson Bullish About IPL Taking Place And Confident Of RCB Being Ready

Mike Hesson, director of cricket operations of Royal Challengers Bangalore, remains optimistic of the IPL taking place this year. The government of India suspended the lucrative tournament for the time being due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. It still is unclear whether the competition would be held later this year as the situation seems very gloomy. Yet, the BCCI may pull all the stops to make this happen.

It also looks as if the coaches of the respective franchises are preparing themselves for the cash-rich league. The competition’s original starting date was the 29th of March. The same was postponed to the 15th of April before calling it off indefinitely. The total lockdown which the Indian government imposed on the 25th of March, and it still continues.

Yet, Mike Hesson not only remains bullish of the IPL taking place but is also confident that the Virat Kohli-led side would be ready. Furthermore, they were feeling very advanced in terms of their strategies. The 45-year old, who enjoyed a successful coaching stint with New Zealand, was appointed as the director of RCB’s cricket operations in August 2019. He also served as the coach of Kenya before resigning due to security concerns. Hesson previously coached Kings XI Punjab as well.

“We’re still really hopeful that things will evolve and there will be an IPL this year and if it happens, then I can assure you that RCB will be ready. We were obviously a week away from coming into camp, like everybody else, feeling well advanced in terms of our planning.” Mike Hesson said in the Star Sports show named Cricket Connected

Mike Hesson supports the idea of putting everything on hold due to the health crisis:

The Dunedin-born wholly supports the idea of suspending everything for the time being. Not only the IPL but events like the Tokyo Olympics, football events, and various cricket series involving the likes of England, Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Hesson understands that are other priorities that people have to concentrate on.

“Quite rightfully, everything has been put on hold and everybody is going about their work. There are obviously other priorities at the moment that people are focussing on.” he added.
