Amidst the men’s tight schedule in the international cricket arena, the Indian women team has toured Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series. The skipper of India, Mithali Raj is confident of the team doing well in the Island Nation.

Though India ranked at the top in the ICC ranking charts, skipper doesn’t want to take Sri Lanka lightly. Mithali is eventually wary of Sri Lanka’s prowess in the limited-overs especially, in their backyard.

ICC Women’s Championship narrowing the difference – Mithali Raj

The classy right-handed batter stated the numbers on ICC Rankings don’t affect the result of the series. She feels that the team performing better will win the game on a particular day.

Further, Mithali showered words of praise on Chamara Atapattu for raising the bar of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in the international circuit. She is one of the few Asian Cricketers to be the part of Women’s Big Bash league (WBBL). However, India is gearing up for the ICC’s Women’s World Cup 2018.

“We have played Sri Lanka in the World Cup, in the Asia Cup and I should admit that it’s a team that has grown from year to year,” Mithali said in Colombo.

“Now the gap between the top teams and the bottom teams is narrowing because of the ICC Women’s Championship,” Mithali added.

“You do have a player here who is representing Sri Lanka in the Big Bash League,” Raj said. “That in itself should show that you have a very strong team. But India definitely is very positive about our own performance on the field,” Mithali stated.
