Mohammad Azharuddin brought his ‘magical wrists’ to work again as he had a knock in front of a stand named after him at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. One of the most successful Indian captain and a sublime batsman brought back a plenty of memories as he still looked in fluid touch while knocking the ball.

Azharuddin last featured in competitive cricket for Veterans’ Series in 2007. Playing against the legends of Pakistan cricket team, he had notched up the scores of 82, 25, 14, 26, 7, 28 and 8 in the series which was played across multiple venues in Indian and Pakistan as friendly ties.

Mohammad Azharuddin: Knock knock… timing it like old times

The knocking session from Azharuddin included a variety of shots which sure to bring back memories for any 90s kids who has been a cricket lover. He started with a cover drive, played a classic flick through the leg and timed a backfoot punch to perfection. Azharuddin, was in his shorts and a T-shit with a cap on, but for fans it was like ‘old days’ like he described in the caption of his video.

In December 5, 2000 Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma was banned for life for his involvement in match-fixing scandal. That brought an end to his glorious career, where he notched up over 14000 international runs, and maintained a good average. He was elected the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in September, 2019.

Alongside Azharuddin and Sharma, Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar and ex-physiotherapist Ali Irani was handed five years ban related to all cricket activities.
