Sources also revealed star all-rounder Hafeez was offered to open in the final and fifth match of the series.
However, he refused to participate in the game as he thought that both the openers – Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman — deserved their place after scoring two centuries apiece in the first four matches.
Rejection of GT20 offer:
It has also been learnt veteran all-rounder was baffled as he rejected the offer to play in Canada.
The Lahore-born cricketer Hafeez has left a Rs15 million contract with the GT20 League in Canada for the Zimbabwe series.
Mohammad Hafeez wants to retire on a high note:
The former skipper of Pakistan Hafeez wants to end his career on a high, and he has already shared a word with management.
Hafeez has represented Pakistan in 50 Tests, 200 ODIs, and 83 T20Is, where he scored 11,224 runs and claimed 239 wickets.
About his career, he further asked Pakistan team management to give him clear indication that whether he is in for plans or not.
Sources also revealed that he got a positive response from the head coach, Mickey Arthur. The latter prefers newbies over senior members in the squad.
Earlier the Pakistan coach Arthur was not in favour of Mohammad Hafeez. Arthur was of the belief that all-rounder will cement his place in the team after scoring a good patch of runs against a weaker team like Zimbabwe. But he believed it will force the team management to continue with Hafeez.
It is worth to mention that Arthur wants to have a team of young guns. After dropping Umer Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz, Sohaib Maqsood and many other senior cricketers, he has already given the indication.
