India star Mohammed Shami has broken into the top ten of latest ICC Test Rankings released on Sunday after starring in the first Test against Bangladesh in Indore. The right-arm pacer starred with the ball as India thrashed the visitors by an innings and 130 runs to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Shami was the star of the show with the ball as he did not allow the opposition batsmen to settle down in either of the two innings. In the first innings. he picked up three wickets and agonisingly missed out on a well-deserved hat-trick. His ball to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim is arguably the ball of the season so far. His spell helped India bowl out Bangladesh for just 150 in the first innings.

In reply, the hosts declared their innings after scoring a mammoth 493 for 6. In-form opener Mayank Agarwal starred with the bat, scoring his career-best 243. He was well supported by fifties from Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja.

In the second innings, Shami was even more devastating as he picked up four wickets for just 31 runs. He ran through Bangladesh’s middle-order to derail their innings as India bowled them out for 213. And the devastating spell in the game has helped Shami made a big leap in the ICC Test Rankings.

He is now at the seventh spot in the rankings. At number four, Jasprit Bumrah continues to be the highest-ranked Indian bowler in the list which is headed by Australia’s Pat Cummins. Ravichandran Ashwin is the other Indian bowler in the top ten.

Among batsmen, Steve Smith is at top followed by India captain Virat Kohli who could not open his account against Bangladesh. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma are also in top ten. Mayank Agarwal has also made a significant leap to reach a career-best 11th spot. In the team’s rankings, India continue to dominate at the top.
