The former England spinner Monty Panesar is eyeing to ply his trade for the Ranji team in the upcoming season of domestic cricket in India. The left-arm spinner is still trying hard to get a contract in the county, for which, he wants to make use of Ranji Trophy in India.
Progressing through the ranks of Northamptonshire’s youth teams, Monty had a blistering start to his first-class career finishing with match figures of 8/131 against Leicestershire on debut in 2001. Consistent performances meant that he sealed his place as a first-choice spinner on the English side.

I am still working hard – Monty Panesar
However, now, he is finding it tough to grab a place in the county side. Speaking of the same, Monty Panesar quoted that he is looking to play for a Ranji side in the upcoming season and wants to exhibit his skills out. Panesar revealed that he is in talks with Puducherry, who accepts having a foreigner in their side.
“I am still trying to play professional cricket, but I have not found a County (team) yet. I am still working hard to find a County. I may try and play Ranji Trophy this year. I think there is one team — Puducherry — that allows overseas players to play,” Panesar told The Telegraph from the United Kingdom on Tuesday.
Recently, the veteran pace bowler R. Vinay Kumar has bid adieu to Karnataka cricket after 15 long years and is all set to move to Puducherry as a player and mentor. The 35-year-old made the announcement at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stating that he would like to leave the place for youngsters in the state.
The abundance of the league and junior cricket in Puducherry has gone a long way in ensuring that the Union Territory is one of the strongest new teams. Puducherry district has about 35 clubs and academies, Karaikal has 20, and Yanam and Mahe have 10 each.

Recently, a lot of questions were also raised on the team as well. According to the complaints, Puducherry has more than the eligible number of outstation players in their squad. Well, it would be interesting to see whether Monty Panesar can crack the deal or not.
