Former England, spinner Monty Panesar, has lauded the BCCI for nurturing and developing the U-19 players through the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL has indeed been a massive platform for the youngsters to express themselves freely to stake claim to play for the national team. Monty Panesar has revealed being impressed with how the youngsters have grabbed the opportunity and flourished.
In the current edition of IPL, there have been a new set of youngsters who have managed to impress with their magnificent performances. The likes of Ravi Bishnoi, Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad have all impressed with their showing and could don the national jersey in the upcoming few years to come along. Such players have also got mentors in their disposal to help them in every step of the way.

Monty Panesar underlined that the most impressive thing about IPL is how the youngsters develop and flourish, taking the challenge head-on. He pointed out how Ravi Bishnoi, who is a leggie, has the backing of Kings XI Punjab coach Anil Kumble and how Ricky Ponting is mentoring Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of Delhi Capitals. He added that every youngster is doing well in the extravaganza and highlighted that the Natwest T20 Blast is lacking in that area.
“The most impressive thing that we’ve seen is the U19 cricketers come through on the IPL platform and actually flourish, taking on the challenge. As the likes of the young leggie who bowls that leg spin, Bishnoi, for Punjab Kings XI. Strategically, you know, they’ve obviously put him into that cadre with Anil Kumble to flourish. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, who is Delhi Capitals captain ― you know, Ricky Ponting is mentoring him, doing a beautiful job.
I just think the BCCI have got it spot on when it comes to the development of young U19, young Ranji Trophy players in the IPL. Every team right now has one youngster that is doing well, you know. And I look at the Natwest T20 Blast, and I look elsewhere, I haven’t seen youngsters develop so quickly like they do so in the IPL,” Monty Panesar told Sportscafe.
“I think the appointment of Saurav Ganguly has been brilliant” : Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar further said that he remains entirely in support of appointing former cricketers in the administrative positions as the specific cricketing nation will get the benefit of that. As such, he underlined that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly knows how to develop a young player, strategically by appointing certain coaches in place. Hence, the 38-year old feels that IPL and BCCI are bearing the fruit of the same.
“I think the appointment of Saurav Ganguly has been brilliant because, I’m a big believer of appointing ex cricketers into administration roles because then you see the benefit ― the true benefit ― of the game run in the best way. And, Ganguly is gold dust for BCCI, you know. He exactly knows how to develop a young cricketer, creates a pathway ― like, strategically place certain cricketers with certain coaches ― and, you know, it’s proving absolutely spot on. And I think this is because you appointed Sourav Ganguly as the president. But strategically, the decisions that he’s put in place… now, I think the IPL and the BCCI are seeing the fruits of,” the 38-year old added.
