MS Dhoni’s future hangs in the balance as the IPL 2020 has been postponed indefinitely following the lockdown extension in the country due to the novel coronavirus scare. Team India head coach Ravi Shastri had asserted that his future directly relies on his performance in the IPL 2020. But with the IPL 2020 taking a hit, many from the cricket fraternity have backed MS Dhoni, to make a cut for the T20 World Cup even if the lucrative tournament does not gets underway.
MS Dhoni was in thick of things for his performance in the World Cup 2019. His strike-rate had dropped significantly as he was not timing the ball to perfection. He lacked finishing touch, looking more like a No.5 batsman. Following the marquee tournament, he took a sabbatical, and the IPL 2020 was supposed to be his route to comeback.

Would always go with MS for any big tournament: L Balaji
MS Dhoni had started training for IPL 2020 early. CSK bowling coach L Balaji said that he did not look rusty from the first day of training. Balaji, however, said it would be selectors call to decide his future. He also said, MS Dhoni is a big tournament player, and he brings a lot more than just finishing skills to the table.

“It is entirely up to selectors but if you ask me, I would always go with MS for any big tournament. Beyond his finishing skills, there are a lot of things he brings to the table. It is about having multiple inputs in a team game. When it comes to winning big tournaments, we can’t have makeshift players as it leads to uncertainty. It is about having the best players for every slot,” the former India pacer told The Times of India.
Dhoni has been the go-to man for the Indian cricket team. Even if he has not contributed to his potential in the past, his ability to guide the players and read the game, has always come handy. It will be one aspect, as Balaji suggested, will be looked upon during the T20 World Cup squad selection.
