Amidst all the allegations and troubles, under-fire Mohammed Shami has found the much-needed backing from the cricketing fraternity.
The fast-bowler has landed in hot waters after his wife Hasin Jahan levelled sensational allegations against him. Last week, Jahan alleged that her husband was having extra-marital affairs with several women. She even alleged that the pacer was physically assaulting and threatening her over a period of almost two years.
Jahan posted several screenshots on social media to back her claims. The pictures showed the chats Shami allegedly had with these women. She has also filed a police complaint against Shami at the city police headquarters at Lalbazar.
“He has affairs with multiple women. Many are from other parts of India while some are residents of Pakistan and countries in Europe. He used to spend time with them in different hotels while on tour. He used to chat with them using video apps,” Jahan had said last week.
Shami has been booked majorly under the charges of section 498A. The other charges recorded against Shami are under Section 307 – attempt to murder, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 – rape, Section 506 – criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34.
The BCCI has also withheld Shami’s central contract with the reason being his wife’s complaint. Jahan also claimed that her husband was involved in match-fixing.
But amidst all this, Shami has found the backing of the cricketing fraternity. The likes of Kapil Dev and Chetan Chauhan have backed the bowler in the ongoing case. And now none other than MS Dhoni has come out in support of his teammate. The former India skipper called Shami a great person and refrained from making any comment on the bowler’s personal life.
“As far as I know, Shami is a great person. He cannot betray his wife and country. This is Shami’s personal matter and we should not make any comment on it,” said Dhoni to Punjab Kesari.
“Shami is a great cricketer and he should focus more on his game,” he added.
