There is still little clarity over the future of MS Dhoni in international cricket. The former India skipper has not played a competitive game since the World Cup semifinal in July and there is still no clarity over when would he return to action. The focus was firmly on him after the World Cup ended and MS Dhoni decided to take a sabbatical from the game.
It was expected he would return to action at the start of the home season. However, MS Dhoni decided against it and is yet to confirm the dates for his return. Consequently, he has already missed the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh and is also not a part of the ODI and the T20I teams for the upcoming series against West Indies next month.

As far as selectors are concerned, chairman of selection panel MSK Prasad has already made it clear that the selectors are moving on from Dhoni. Prasad made it clear that the selectors would now try out youngsters and have backed Rishabh Pant since then.
MS Dhoni to take call after IPL:
At a time when there is absolutely no clarity over Dhoni’s future, sources have confirmed that the legendary batsman will take a call on his future only after the next IPL. He was recently seen training with Jharkhand’s under-23 team in Ranchi, triggering a fresh round of speculation on a possible comeback.
“Speculations will be over only after the IPL. You can’t stop speculation as he is such a big player. He is in the best shape possible fitness-wise and has been training hard for the last one month,” the source told PTI.
“However the number of competitive games he will play before the IPL will be decided in due course,” he added.
After the series against West Indies, India will host Sri Lanka for three T20Is and Australia for as many ODIs before flying to New Zealand. With Rishabh Pant struggling, it would be interesting to see whether the selectors recall Dhoni or not.
