Former India captain MS Dhoni will be one of the spectators at the JSCA Stadium when India will take on South Africa in the third and the final Test of the series in Ranchi from October 19. A source in JSCA confirmed to The Telegraph that Dhoni has consented to watch the game. Though the state association’s vice-president, Ajay Nath Shahdeo, did not confirm the update to The Telegraph.

The last time when India played a Test there – against Australia in 2017 – Dhoni was at the stadium and the fans went crazy once he was shown on the giant screen on the ground. The former India captain was playing for Jharkhand in Vijay Hazare Trophy during the second Test and returned home to watch the match after Jharkhand’s run n the tournament came to an end.

The report also adds that the people will be allowed to watch practice sessions of both the teams, which isn’t the case in every cricket ground in India. In IPL as well, all teams do not allow fans to see their practice sessions. Chennai Super Kings though have their gates always opened for the fans.

It will be the second Test match that the JSCA will be hosting. The previous Test here was a drawn affair. After dismissing Australia at 451, India scored 603/9. Australia batted 100 overs for their 204/6 in the third innings of the game and the Test ended in a draw. India won the next Test at Dharamsala to win the four-Test series 2-1.

In the ongoing Pune Test series against South Africa, the home team is leading 1-0 and is highly expected to seal series in Pune. They are 320/3 after 100 overs in the Test and are looking solid to post a total of over 500 in the first innings.

Like the first Test, the visitors are expected to fight back in their first innings but it will be a difficult task to chase the target in the fourth innings, like was the case in Vizag.
