Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly stated that MS Dhoni will not play forever and the team will need to get used to the same fact. Ganguly said that Dhoni will have to hang his boots eventually as all great players have done in the past. The Prince of Kolkata believes the quicker the team adjusts to playing their best without Dhoni, the better it would be.

Meanwhile, there were a lot of speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement. However, the wicket-keeper batsman decided to keep all his retirement rumors at bay. Dhoni recently served for the Indian army in the Kashmir region and took a two months break from the sport.

All great players have to retire one day.

“Every big player has to hang up his shoes. That’s a sport. Look at football, Maradona had to quit. There hasn’t been a bigger player than him. Tendulkar, Lara, Bradman.. everyone had to quit. This is the way the system has been and will be. So this scenario will come for MS as well,” Ganguly told India Today.

On the other hand, Ganguly believes that the final decision will need to be taken by MS Dhoni. Ganguly stated if Dhoni believes that he can still win matches for the Indian team, he should continue to play. There are always huge expectations from big players like Dhoni but the former skipper’s recent form has gone down the slope.

Dhoni has to evaluate where he stands.

“He is at that stage of his career where he has to evaluate where he stands. He has to decide if he can win matches for India. If he can continue to contribute like MS Dhoni, not someone else.

“Because with players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, until they play, there will be expectations that they will play like in this way and win matches in this fashion. I think Dhoni has to make this decision. Only a player knows how much fuel is left in the tank and how much of his match-winning ability is intact,” he says.

Sourav  Ganguly said Indian cricket should get used to the fact that Dhoni won’t play forever and his time has all but come to call it a day. However, the final call is yet to taken by talismanic gloveman.

“Indian cricket will have to get used to the fact that MS Dhoni won’t be playing forever and he won’t be around for too long. But I believe this decision has to be taken by Dhoni himself,” Ganguly concluded.

MS Dhoni has all the experience under his belt and it is well known that he won’t hang around if he is not contributing to the team. Dhoni has always been a team man and it would be interesting to note when the big decision comes.
