Thursday (April 23) marked the seventh anniversary of Chris Gayle???s monumental knock of 175 in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On April 23, 2013, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore opener broke the record for the fastest hundred in the history of cricket with his 30-ball hundred against now-defunct Pune Warriors.
His unbeaten knock of 175 is still the highest score in the shortest format of the game. Not a single bowler was spared on that day as the West Indies star made a mockery of the bowlers. He scored his 175 runs in just 66 balls with the help of 17 sixes and 13 boundaries that took the Royal Challengers to a record-breaking 263/5 in 20 overs.
The writing was very much on the wall for the Pune Warriors and their batsmen did little to put Bangalore under any pressure. Pune Warriors eventually finished on 133/9 with Chris Gayle picking up two wickets for just five runs as the Royal Challengers won the game by a huge margin of 130 runs.
???I didn???t want to just get the hundred and continue blasting and blasting and get out, you know how quickly this game can change,??? the left-handed batsman had said after his knock.
MS Dhoni???s tweet:
While the fans were busy recalling Chris Gayle???s famous knock on Thursday, an old tweet of MS Dhoni also did the round on social media. MS Dhoni is one of the most followed cricketers on social media but he is definitely not among the most active cricketers.
But few years ago, the former India skipper used to tweet on a regular basis and he had posted a tweet about Gayle???s knock too. And one can say that most of the fans have not seen that tweet. Expressing his relief over not being a bowler, MS Dhoni had cheekily written:
???Life is all about taking the right decision, seeing Gayle bat today I think I took the right decision of being a wicket keeper.???
