Mumbai Indians, the three times Indian Premier League (IPL) champions have called a 17-year-old pacer from Jammu & Kashmir, Rasikh Salam for the trial for the upcoming season of IPL.

Meanwhile, Salam has been impressive throughout the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, Rasikh hasn’t featured in any age group levels before making his debut for the senior side. Furthermore, his selection on the side was largely due to the insertion of Irfan Pathan as the mentor cum player of the side.

Coming from a small village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam, Rasik Salam bowls at an alarming pace and swings the ball both ways. He surprised one and all with his heroic bowling spell against mighty Tamil Nadu batting line-up, taking two big scalps by giving away 45 runs in his quota of 8 overs.

Incidentally, an associate member of Mumbai Indians was present at the stadium who seemed impressed with Rasik Salam’s show. Jammu & Kashmir won the match by four wickets.

He (the associate member of Mumbai Indians) seemed delighted to see Rasik’s pace and swing at such a small age. Later, he invited Rasikh for the trial camp of Mumbai Indians that will take place at Mumbai tomorrow,” an official of JKCA told Sportskeeda.

Rasikh came into the limelight after Irfan Pathan nominated him in a talent-hunt camp held at Shei-I-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar. He was highly praised by both Pathan and J&K skipper Parvez Rasool.

Parvez Rasool is the only Jammu and Kashmir cricket to have played in IPL. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab picked all-rounder Manzoor Dar during last year’s IPL auction but couldn’t make his debut.
