Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI had to postpone the competition twice. The ever-increasing cases of COVID-19 in India forced the Indian cricket board to move the tournament to the UAE, which also hosted 20 games in 2014. The lucrative league for which the stadiums are always packed would not witness the same atmosphere this time. All the matches will take place behind closed doors with COVID-19 tests in place for players regularly. According to some research, the deadly contagion can spread through the ducts in a centrally air-conditioned building.
The pandemic has affected more than 18 million people across the globe and resulted in comfortably more than 100000 deaths. As per a Times of India report, Sunrisers Hyderabad have begun conversations with golf resorts while Mumbai Indians are likely to rent an apartment complex for the entire season. It also states that the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders might have their training camps in Dubai, which remains more secluded than Dubai.
Mumbai Indians will enter as defending champions for the fourth time:
Rohit Sharma-led franchise would enter the 13th edition of the IPL as the defending champions and one of the strongest outfits of the lot. They won their first title in 2013 by beating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and did the same last year by escaping with a one-run victory. The tournament kickstarts on the 19th of September while the final takes place on the 10th of November.
