Murali Vijay continued to impress on his maiden County appearance as he scored a fine hundred while playing for Essex against Nottinghamshire. The flamboyant right-hander had scored a fifty on his debut innings as he amassed 56 runs. Furthermore, the stylish batsman backed it with another fine effort in the second innings. Vijay who had recently found it difficult in the English conditions was able to hit the ground running.

The Tamil Nadu batsman scored 15 boundaries in his fine knock. Vijay is still batting with Tom Westley as he is involved in a gargantuan partnership of unbeaten 191 runs for the second wicket.

Vijay finds runs in England.

On the other hand, Vijay had scored only 26 runs in the first two Test matches against England. In fact, he bagged a pair in the second Test match at Lord’s. Therefore, the right-hander was shown the exit doors from the third Test playing XI.

Furthermore, Vijay was dropped from the squad for the final two Test matches. Thus, it was a disappointing tour for Vijay as he could not get going against England bowlers.

However, Vijay was one of the leading run-scorers for India on the 2014 tour. He had scored 402 runs, however, could not hit the ground running on the 2018 tour.

Meanwhile, Essex needs 65 more runs to win against Nottinghamshire.  Essex had made 233 runs in the first innings after Nottinghamshire were skittled out for 177. The hosts then went on to score 337 in the second innings. Consequently, Essex was set up a target of 282 runs.

Thus, the tourists needed their top order to provide a good platform. Vijay was finally able to find form in the English conditions. This performance would have acted as the shot in the arm for the right-hander. Hence, Vijay will like to once again secure his place in the Indian side.
