Once again Mushfiqur Rahim proved his credentials with the bat for Bangladesh in the ongoing Test match against Zimbabwe. The flamboyant batsman registered his third double century before becoming the leading run-scorer of Bangladesh in the longer version of the game. Speaking of the same, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hassan asserted that Rahim is bound to play in Pakistan — for the country on the basis of a contract.

Hasan explained that players should play in whatever series they get selected. Likewise, he asked Rahim to pack his bags to play against Pakistan in the final leg of their tour. Hassan stressed that the country must come first then the self.

“We are expecting that he would go,” Hassan said at a press conference in Mirpur on Tuesday afternoon.

“Not only him, but every contracted player should go. Players have to think about the country, and not just themselves. This is what I personally feel,” Hasan added.

Country comes before everything else: Nazmul Hassan

BCB supremo Hassan has told Rahim that he was contract-bound to travel to Pakistan for the One-off ODI and second Test in Karachi. He further says that players must “think about the country, and not about themselves”.

“The country comes before everything else. Everyone should keep it in mind. We will remind them that the contracted players must play as they are told when selected. It never occurred to me that one has to tell them this, too,” he added.

Further, he highlighted Mahmudullah Riyad, who travelled Pakistan despite hailing from the same family. He suggested Mushfiqur Rahim consult Mahmudullah and learn the security provided by Pakistan officials before making his final call on the upcoming tour.

“Let me say it simply: we also had fears about security, but now that we have played, and even someone from his family has played [brother-in-law Mahmudullah], will the family only cry about him but not when something happens to Riyad,” Hassan said.

“He should hear about Pakistan from Riyad or his other team-mates,” Hasan concluded.
