Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been asked by the national selectors to feature in the four-day practice game against Sri Lanka A.
Furthermore, it will be an assessment for promising youngster Rahman. The selectors look to find out whether he will be fit to take part in the Test series against Windies. He is currently on standby for the Test series against Windies.
Meanwhile, Rahman started bowling with a short run-up at the academy premises earlier in the year.
Rahman had to miss the tour of Windies as he was in the process of recovering from his toe injury. He also missed the three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh surrendered the series by a 3-0 margin. However, he is hopeful of getting fit by the second test if the rehabilitation program goes according to the plan.
Before coming to any conclusion the selectors want to assess his performance in the four-day games. Sri Lanka A will play three four day games against Bangladesh.
“We want to have him a look against Sri Lanka A team in the four-day matches,” national selector Habibul Bashar was quoted as saying by the Cricbuzz.
Bashar further added they need to make sure that the workload is distributed well and Rahman is not overstrained.
”It will help us to know about his condition. He can also have a clear understanding about where he stands as far as match fitness is concerned,” said Habibul.

Mustafizur is hopeful or recovering in time:
“Naturally, we will manage his workload but for us, the major emphasis remains in seeing him in match conditions,” he added.
Rahman is still having some pain. However, he is hopeful of the fact that he will be fit for the second Test provided that he doesn’t get injured again.
Injuries have been a never-ending part of Rahman’s brief career.
Mustafizur Rahman picked up a shoulder strain way back in 2016 and it has never really left him from there.
”Naturally, there is some pain as it [injured area] was covered for a long period of time,” Mustafizur said. ”But overall the recovery looks to be quite satisfying but as I am yet to bowl in full run-up can’t say much about it. First, let me start bowling in full run-up and only after that can I have a clear understanding of my situation,” he added.
Bangladesh will start their tour of WIndies with a two-day warm-up match starting tomorrow. The first of the two-match Test series starts on July 4 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Moreover, the second Test will be played on 12th July. It will be played at the Sabina Park in Jamaica. It will be followed by three One-day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals.
