A biopic on Sri Lanka spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan will soon be shot with tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead role in it. It was announce last year that Vijay Sethupathi will be playing the lead role in the biopic of Muttiah Muralitharan and since then the fans have been waiting for it to release.
In his illustrious career, Muralitharan weaved magic with his spin. He is the most wicket-taker in international cricket with 1347 wickets, which includes 800 in Tests and 534 in ODIs. He was also a part of the Sri Lankan World Cup winning team in 1996 but could never captain his side.
The film has been titled ‘800’ in reference to the number of wickets taken by Muralitharan in Test cricket. The actor said that he never watched cricket as the sport does not excites him and he had said about the same to Muralitharan. Adding that it went on to become one of the prime reason why the spin wizard wanted him to take the project.
“I don’t even watch cricket. The sport does not make me excited and it makes me feel bored. So, I have not watched cricket even as a child. In fact, I even told this to Muttiah Muralitharan sir and he immediately told that is the perfect quality for me to play the role,” Sethupathi was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
Muralitharan called time on his illustrious career after the 2011 World Cup final.
