India’s prodigy batsman Shubman Gill is letting his bat do all the talking for him. Gill, who could not break into India’s senior team despite good performances for India A side, is now focusing all his energy on scoring runs consistently. The 19-year old batsman was awarded the Man of the series in the One Day series against West Indies A.

Gill had scored 218 runs in the four innings which included three fifties. Thus, Gill was expected to get his chance in the senior side but the selectors failed to notice his performances. In fact, the young batsman also showed his disappointment as he said that he was expecting to be included in at least one of the squads.

Gill is the future of Indian cricket.

“Whenever I go out to play, things like pressure and expectations never come to my head. The thing that comes to my head is ‘how am I going to score runs on this wicket and how I am going to tackle these bowlers’,” said the 19-year-old

However, Gill didn’t lose heart and his focus remained on scoring runs for India A side. In the third unofficial Test match against West Indies A, the right-hander scored a brilliant double century.

Double ton was a shot in the arm.

“That innings was a huge confidence booster and it was pending because in the one-dayers I was getting out in 70s and 80s. I played four matches and got three fifties (62, 77, 69). In the second four-day game, I got out off the first ball in the first innings. Then, I told myself that if I get a chance to bat again I have to bring up a big knock. It was the perfect opportunity because we were 14 for 3. I started getting runs and it was important to carry on with that momentum and not get carried away and lose my wicket,” the right-handed batsman further said.

On the other hand, Gill will now be leading India Blue in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The right-hander wants to get the best out of his players and have his plans in place.

“As a captain, it is important for me to make sure that players are switched on so that they don’t think of personal goals all the time. If we are going to win these matches and get to the final you get one more opportunity to perform.”

There is no denying the fact that Shubman Gill is the future of Indian cricket and he has also performed brilliantly in the domestic circuit. The selection is not in his hands and all he can do is to score runs consistently.
