The upcoming three-Test series in England against the hosts will mark the return of Pakistan’s comeback to international cricket. Former English captain Nasser Hussain tips Babar Azam as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting and reckons his form would be crucial if the tourists are to win the series. Babar Azam will take the field as the number six batsman in Tests.

While Babar Azam has proved himself in limited-overs cricket, the 25-year old is yet to prove his mettle in whites. Nevertheless, Babar’s record in Test cricket so far is nothing less than impressive. In 26 Tests, he has mustered 1850 runs at 45.12 with five centuries and 13 fifties. The right-handed batsman was also crucial in Pakistan’s victory at Lord’s two years ago.

Nasser Hussain has tipped Babar Azam as the most impressive batsman in their line-up, who has gone from strength to strength in the past few years. Hussain pointed out that the right-handed batsman is quite pleasing to the eye and needs to be on the top of his game for Pakistan to win the series.

The outstanding member of that line-up is Babar Azam, who has the best average in the world over the past two years. Babar has taken on the responsibility of being Pakistan’s leading batsman now and it is not only his stats that are impressive but the way he bats, because he is very pleasing on the eye. He will need to have a good series for Pakistan to win it,” Nasser Hussain wrote in his column for Daily Mail.

Pakistan’s 16-member squad, which has four pacers and a spinner will undoubtedly create more questions than the West Indian bowlers could. Nasser Hussain praised the speed of teen prodigy Naseem Shah, the skill of Shaheen Shah Afridi, the precision of Mohammad Abbas, and finally the threat posed by the leggie Yasir Shah.

There’s the 17-year-old Naseem Shah, who will push 90 miles per hour, and the tall left-armer Shaheen Afridi, who will get it through. Add the wrist-spin of Yasir Shah and the accuracy of Mohammad Abbas, who has a phenomenal record in England, and that’s a useful line-up,” he added.
