Nathan Lyon Might Miss Out On T20I And ODI Series Against India

Nathan Lyon, Australia’s off-spinner, is likely not to be a part of the limited-overs home series against India starting November 27.
Australia’s champion off-spinner in Test cricket has been previously left out for Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar, both of whom are likely starters in Australia’s white-ball eleven. Lyon hasn’t had a consistent run in limited-overs cricket as the off-spinner has played only two T20Is and 29 ODIs in his career.
No international game before Test series for Nathan Lyon
Nathan Lyon last played a T20I game in 2016, and an ODI game in the 2019 World Cup. He has picked 29 wickets in ODIs at an average of 26. The numbers don’t really make a place for Lyon in white-ball cricket.
However, an international contest before the Test series, which the Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings described as the “world heavyweight championship of Test cricket” would have helped Lyon in gaining his rhythm back for the highest level of batters.
He was part of Australia’s squad which toured England and won the ODI series but didn’t get a single game. Lyon has played some domestic cricket post the resumption of cricket and will play the practice games as well- but a practice game is no international contest, and Australia’s ‘GOAT’ will go into an important Test series without any international experience for a long time.
Lyon is four Test matches short of donning the baggy green for the 100th time, and 10 wickets away from 400 test scalps.
Cricket Australia is expected to announce the squads on Thursday after confirming the itinerary on Wednesday. The BCCI has already announced its squad on Monday. India will travel down under for a full-fledged tour comprising of 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and a Test series of 4 matches. The Indian team registered a historic Test series victory over the Aussies in Australia in 2018-19.
