Hampshire have sensationally roped in Australia spin spearhead Nathan Lyon for the 2020 County Championship season. The off-spinner has signed a red-ball contract with the English outfit and will remain at the club for the entire season if international commitments permit. Hampshire will be delighted with their latest recruit.

Nathan Lyon is arguably the best off-spinner to have played for Australia. He has picked up a staggering 363 wickets in 91 games and is second in the list of Australian spinners with most Test wickets. He recently toured England for the World Cup as well as Ashes, helping his side make it to the semifinal of the tournament and retain the urn.

In the Ashes, he picked up 20 wickets as Australia drew the series 2-2. His finest performance came in the first Test at Edgbaston where he picked up 6 for 49 in the second innings to power his side to a win. During the course of the series, he also went past Dennis Lillee’s tally of 355 Test wickets. Nathan Lyon is now only behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath in Australia’s all-time highest Test wicket-taker.

“I very much look forward to playing with Hampshire in next year’s County Championship,” said Lyon. “It is a fabulous opportunity to be involved with a leading county who have had a long and successful relationship with Australian cricketers.”

“I love playing cricket in England and no doubt will enjoy the 2020 summer with the Hampshire players, coaches, members and supporters. We will all be focused on winning the County Championship in 2020 – I can’t wait,” he added.

At Hampshire, Lyon will ply his trade under England star James Vince. Lyon had played against Vince when England toured Australia in 2017-18 season. Lyon, meanwhile, is not new to playing county cricket. In the past, he had turned out for Worcestershire for four matches in 2017.
