Just days ahead of the all important Ashes, Australia spin spearhead Nathan Lyon has suffered a big setback with his daughter being admitted to hospital with severe flu. Lyon is currently in England, miles away from Australia where his daughter is in hospital.  4-year old Milla was taken to Sutherland Hospital in Sydney just days after getting down with flu.

Nathan Lyon’s ex-partner Mel Waring shared posts on Instagram to thank Sutherland Hospital for their help. Lyon recently represented Australia in the World Cup where Australia lost in the semifinals to eventual winners England. Lyon is currently in England with his girlfriend Emma McCarthy and will stay with her until the end of the Ashes in the middle of September.

But the picture of his daughter is bound to make Lyon worried. Mel Waring shared a picture of young Milla in a hospital bed, with her arm bandaged and a tube attached.

“Sutherland hospital have been amazing. Milla has been showered with gifts and love from the staff and she loved her get well cards and gifts from Ava and Riley,” wrote Mel Waring.

She also encouraged her compatriots to ensure their flu shots are updated as Australia is suffering with a fatal influenza season. More than 300 people have died from flu in 2019 and the latest weekly Influenza Surveillance Report recorded 6234 cases for the week ending July 7.

Lyon will have a huge role to play in the upcoming Ashes. The team from Down Under is looking to retain the Ashes after their 4-0 crushing of England in the 2017/18 series Down Under. However, it won’t be an easy task given their dismal record in England in the last one decade or so. Australia have lost the last four series held in England, in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
