Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan made a shocking revelation on Friday (July 20) that they are considering to start off Test cricket afresh with the inclusion of some new players.

Hasan stated that some of the senior and most important players in the national team are not keen on playing the longest format of the game anymore. The list includes former skipper Shakib Al Hasan, fast bowler Rubel Hossain and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

Shakib has been a match-winning player for Bangladesh over the years. His absence from the longest format will definitely put the Tigers under pressure as they move forward in the Test arena.

Bangladesh has been quite mediocre in their last few months. Very recently they suffered a thrashing at the hands of Windies as they lost the series by a 2-0 margin.

It was only last year that Shakib took a break from Test cricket for six months. However, he cited fatigue as the reason.

But, BCB kept faith in him and appointed him the national Test skipper yet again.

“Now, I see that some of our senior players are not interested in playing Test cricket,” said Nazmul. ”I mean to say the likes of Shakib don’t want to play Test cricket,” he added.

Nazmul stated that left-arm specialist Rahman is also not interested in playing the longest version of the game.

”Mustafiz[ur Rahman] doesn’t want to play Tests. He doesn’t say that he won’t play Test matches but he tries to avoid it. It is maybe because he often gets injured and he may feel he probably would get injured again while playing Tests,” Hasan stated.

Nazmul Hasan, says senior players are not interested in playing Test cricket:

”Now what [has] happened is many of them don’t want to play Tests because it is also very hard to play. Rubel is one of our experienced players and he is serving the team for a while, so there is a chance that Test cricket has become difficult for them. So we have to bring [in] new players from the younger generation,” he added.

Nazmul feels that the future of Test cricket looks bleak. It is the actual format of the game. Adding it is a pretty sad sight to face for the actual cricket lovers.

Test cricket is an ultimate and an honest player will definitely look to be a Test cricketer first. However, the recent players have opted to play shorter formats all across the globe to earn money easily.

”It is true that apart from Australia and England, all other countries, I don’t see anyone interested in playing Test cricket,” he further pointed out.

”As a board, only they [Australia, England] are interested. It’s also because our broadcasters are totally uninterested in Test matches as it attracts less audience and because of that, they are uninterested about it. So that is one issue,” he concluded.
