New Zealand batsman Will Young, who is yet to make his international debut, has been handed central contract following his stupendous show in the previous season. Owing to his performances in the season, he was also called up to the Test side against Bangladesh and was set to make his debut in the third Test but the match was cancelled. He might have to wait for his international debut for now but has been offered central contract, that keeps him in the scheme of things.

Tim Seifert was one of the biggest names who wasn’t offered a central contract. For once, he also found himself in the scheme of things for World Cup 2019 but the selectors went for uncapped Tom Blundell as a backup for Tom Latham. The selectors had taken the decision after Seifert suffered an injury. New Zealand have also included allrounder Jimmy Neesham in the 20-man list. The 28-year-old all-rounder has made a spectacular comeback to the international fold and was very much in line for the contract.

Apart from him, Tom Blundell is another new name on the list. He is a part of the World Cup squad as well. Though he might not get to make his ODI debut in England as Tom Latham remains to be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman. Blundell had made his Test debut in 2017 against West Indies, after he replaced an unfit BJ Watling. He also scored a century on his debut but was dropped after the series as Watling made his comeback to the Test side.

The three players to be dropped from New Zealand’s central contract list are Adam Milne, Corey Anderson and George Worker.

Regulars Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Martin Guptill, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor and others find themselves on the list as well. The players have a time of one week – till May 9th – to take a call whether they are accepting the contracts or not.  New Zealand kick off their international season with World Cup 2019. The Black Caps play their first World Cup 2019 game against Sri Lanka on June 1.
