Once again, New Zealand ended on the wrong side of things at Eden Park, Auckland. The collective bowling effort and the special display of batting performance by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer helped India seal a second win in the five-match T20I series against the Kane Williamson-led side. Once again, the inexperience of the fast bowling department cost them the match.
Chasing a moderate total of 133 runs on the board, the Indian team lost Rohit Sharma early in the innings. It was followed by the wicket of Virat Kohli, which further increased the hiccups of the Indian team. But, once again, Rahul and Iyer put up the solid show to make things fall in place.
The duo added 86-run partnership for the third wicket before Iyer losing his wicket in pursuit of his individual fifty.
However, in-form Rahul remained unbeaten to seal the deal for India. He also registered a half-century to his name.
I need to bat a little better perhaps – Kane Williamson
Speaking of the game, Williamson stated that they were at least 20 runs short to what they would have liked. He showered words of praise on the Indian bowlers for delivering the required goods for India.
New Zealand vs India 2020: Williamson sets focus on the remainder of series:
Williamson is hopeful of his team to make a comeback in the next game, which is at Hamilton on January 29.
”It was a tough day. We needed 15-20 runs more. Credit to the Indian bowlers the way they restricted us. I need to bat a little better perhaps. We needed to take a couple of wickets on the sluggish wicket. We were probably 15-20 runs than where we wanted to be. We need to be better in the next match. We need to keep moving forward as a group as we’re up against a tough side like India,” Williamson said in the post-match presentation.
All in all, it was a tough loss for the New Zealand Cricket Team. They are down to 0-2 in the five-match T20I series.
Now, both teams will take a couple of days break and lock horns in Hamilton on Wednesday.
