The English team has finally arrived for their two-Test tour against Sri Lanka beginning on the 14th of January. England will commence their long expedition to the sub-continent with the Test series against Sri Lanka followed by touring India to play in all three formats. The Three Lions were sprayed with disinfectant after landing in Sri Lanka via a chartered flight.

England’s tour of Sri Lanka remained in limbo due to the new COVID-19 strain that emerged recently and proving to be infectious. However, the England Cricket Board and Sri Lanka cricket worked out things between them, resulting in the visit going ahead. The two-Test rubber was also the same that was supposed to take place in March 2020 but stood postponed due to the COVID-19 exploding. The two cricketing boards decided to defer it midway through England’s tour game.

The tourists have to spend 14 days in Hambantota ahead of the series while Galle will stage both the matches. Despite resting Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer for a couple of Test matches, England could be optimistic of their chances in Sri Lanka, given they whitewashed the hosts in 2018 in three Tests. Following a brief visit to Sri Lanka, England will embark on a long tour of India, comprising of three ODIs, five T20Is, and four Tests.
