Nidahas Trophy 2018: Suresh Raina Breaks MS Dhoni's Record

Suresh Raina broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s runs tally in the T20I’s during his knock of 27 off 15 deliveries against Sri Lanka in the 4th match of the Nidahas Trophy.

The match was played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Raina came to bat at No four. At this point, Raina has amassed 1452 runs in his career so far.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has scored 1444 runs in his T20I career so far. Raina smashed a couple of fours and sixes during his 15 balls knock. Nuwan Pradeep eventually dismissed him.

In world cricket, Virat Kohli is at the 3rd position with 1983 runs while the India captain is behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill who has scored 2271 runs his career so far.

Brendon McCullum is number two on the lost with 2410 runs under his belt. Raina is among the two Indian batsmen to smash T20I centuries. His century came against South Africa in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in West Indies.

The southpaw recently made his comeback to the national team during the T20I series in the Rainbow Nation.

He looked in good touch and even bagged the Man of the Match in the decider. He couldn’t quite score a half-century but chipped in with useful knocks. It was his recent impressive performances which helped him secure a spot in the T20I series.

The southpaw also became the 3rd Indian cricketer to smash 50 T20I sixes. He reached the landmark during the 2nd T20I against Bangladesh.
