Nigeria Qualifies for ICC Under-19 World Cup 2020

The under-19 boys of Nigeria created history by qualifying for the first-ever ICC event. For the first time, a team from Nigeria will make their way into the ICC’s Cricket tournament.

Nigeria’s Under-19 cricket team defeated Tanzania by 35 runs on Sunday to qualify for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

After the achievement, now, they will be promoted to perform in Division 1 in world cricket. For the first time, they will be making their feet towards the tourney alongside India, England, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa and other big names in world Cricket.

Meanwhile, speaking of the achievement, Nigeria’s vice-president quoted they are very proud of the guys and are looking to extend their dominance.

Furtherly, he added the hard work to taste the success has been achieved and wants to perform well in future assignments.

“Everybody associated with cricket in Nigeria is very proud of the achievement of the boys, it was a tortuous journey. However, they have been very dedicated and disciplined and we look forward to them becoming the crux of the senior national team in the nearest future,” Vice President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata said.

As it happened:

Initially, it was the men in green who won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite choosing to bat first, their batsmen were not up to the mark, as they failed to tackle the new ball. However, it was Ifeanyi Uboh and Segun Ogundipe who boosted the total by adding 80 runs for the 8th wicket.

However, the partnership took them to a competitive 169 runs on the board. In reply to the chase, Tanzania was never on the track to win the game. They were bowled out for 134 runs to register history for Nigeria. All in all, it was a massive moment in the history of cricket.
