While Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi recently advocated for the resumption of bilateral ties between India and Pakistan, former India international Chetan Chauhan has stated otherwise. At present, the bilateral relation between the two arch-rivals is at an all-time low.

India have suspended all the ties with Pakistan because of the latter’s cross-border terrorism activities. The neighbours have not played a full bilateral Test series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five ODIs. They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20s in India in December 2012, but otherwise, both have faced each other only in the ICC organised events or the Asia Cup.

And the way things are turning out at the moment, it is highly unlikely that India and Pakistan will play any bilateral series. No matter how much the fans and the cricket world want to see the bitter rivals resume their famous rivalry, Indian government is more than unlikely to give the green light. And Chetan Chauhan is also of the opinion that India should not resume bilateral ties with Pakistan in light of the current political tensions between the two countries.

Chetan Chauhan labelled Pakistan unsafe to play cricket and said India cannot be involved in a bilateral series with the neighbours as long as terrorism is harboured in their country.

“Right now, bilateral series between India and Pakistan should not take place as relations between both countries is not nice. Playing in Pakistan is not safe. Terrorists are not concerned with cricket. As long as terrorists are there in Pakistan, cricket cannot be played between India and Pakistan,” Chauhan was quoted as saying by ANI.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have started hosting international games on a regular basis now. In the last couple of months, they have hosted Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and are now eyeing to host South Africa for a T20I series next month.
