One Of The Happiest Days Of My Life, Says Deepak Chahar After Making India Debut

Deepak Chahar, on Sunday, made his international debut in the third T20I against England and it was a debut to remember.

The right-arm pacer has not looked back since impressing in this year’s Indian Premier League. He finished the season with 10 wickets and earned his maiden call from India for the triangular One-Day series in England. Chahar went on to justify the decision by impressing with the ball. In 6 games, he picked up 16 wickets including a five-wicket haul.

He then received his maiden India call as an injury replacement. And the 25-year old did not have to wait long to make his debut.

With Bhuvneshwar Kumar not well, he got a place in the playing eleven for the series-decider. And although, he went for 43 runs off his four overs, he took the huge wicket of Jason Roy to bring India in the game.

India fully capitalised on that breakthrough by restricting England to under 200. At one stage, it looked like the hosts would post well in excess of 200. But Roy’s departure followed by Hardik Pandya’s four-wicket haul stalled their charge.

In reply, India chased down the total with eight balls remaining. Rohit Sharma starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten ton. Virat Kohli (43) and Hardik Pandya (33 off 14) also made useful contributions. The win helped India seal the series 2-1.

After the game, Chahar took to Instagram to express his delight over his debut, writing:

“What a day it was for me!! Made my international debut. Got my ??? from the captain himself Virat Kohli @virat.kohli and then got my first wicket in International Cricket and India won the series. One of the happiest day of my life. “
